Posted on 22 Oct 2008 20:22

This week Biomatters released the 'Batch Rename' plugin for Geneious, the must-have for renaming sequences! The 'Batch Rename' plugin is perfect for exporting to a basic format like FASTA and saves you the hassle of working with accession codes in later analyses.

How does it work?
Now you can rename any selection of documents to be the same as any of the properties associated with the documents. For example:

Old names: After Batch Rename:
NC_001807 -> Homo sapiens
NC_001709 -> Drosophila melanogaster
NC_001643 -> Pan troglodytes

It can even use properties of the "source" feature on GenBank sequences, such as Country and Strain.

How do I get it?
This useful tool is Free to all users of Geneious Pro.

Install Instructions:
Select "Plugins" from the "Tools" menu in Geneious, then click the "Install" button next to Batch Rename.

Once it's installed, select the documents you want to rename and choose "Batch Rename" from the "Edit" menu. Select a single alignment or tree and the plugin will rename all sequences in the alignment/tree.
