New In Geneious Pro 4.0:
- Specialized cloning function – Cloning just got a whole lot easier with our one-step operation for insertion into a plasmid. All you need to do is select your insert with its cut sites marked out and your plasmid of choice then this new function will take you to the resulting vector in one easy step.
- Publication quality plasmid mapping – Geneious now offers the best view around on plasmids and other circular sequences. Our viewer remains highly interactive and customizable, but now labels annotations intelligently so you can see names for restriction sites and other features when zoomed out.
- Tree coloring – After a "genome-load" of requests, we have made it possible for you to color branches and labels in your phylogenetic trees. This makes it much easier to visualize groups in a large tree – and of course you can still print your tree, or save to high quality formats for publication.

Upgrade Instructions:
Simply download the newest version of Geneious from our download page and install it to the same location as your existing Geneious Pro/Basic. Your previous data and license will be automatically loaded by the new version.
If your one-time purchase license is over 12 months old, you will need to purchase an upgrade before you download v4.0. Go to http://www.geneious.com/store , select "Upgrade" under License Type and follow the instructions. Upgrades are just 20% of the list price for the same license type – i.e. Student: US$49.80, academic: US$99, commercial: US$199 and concurrent: US$299

By the way, this release was originally planned as version 3.9 but became 4.0 because these new features are a leap in capability for Geneious. If you were expecting a new feature in 4.0 that is not in the release notes, it is still on schedule for our next release, later this year.
