Linnaeus lives as part of Geneious Pro 3.5!

Posted on 24 Oct 2007 09:21

Everyone around here loves science, and of course we owe our livelihoods to scientists from the past, present and future. It seemed only fitting that we name our newest plug-in for phylogenetic mapping after Linnaeus, the ‘father of taxonomy.’

We released the stand-alone version of Linnaeus on the 20th of October, 2007. Over 270 years ago, Linnaeus released Systema naturae outlining his ideas for the classification of the natural world into the animal, plant and mineral kingdoms. Humans, for the first time, were grouped together with primates, and whales were classed as fishes. This first edition was eleven pages long, but by 1770 there were over three thousand pages for the thirtieth (and final) publication.

Linnaeus will be a feature plug-in for Geneious Pro v3.5, due for release in early November. Please feel free to try your sequence in the free online demo of Linnaeus. We would love to hear your feedback – there is no cost to use it, and no limit to the number of times you can use it.

Happy tree building!
