They say that it’s the thought that counts, not the actual present itself. However in the case of being recognized as the most innovative thing to come out of New Zealand in information and communication technology for the year is a pretty cool present indeed!
The Biomatters’ team has been recognized by the Award’s committee for work on creating Geneious and the potential Geneious has to uplift the way scientific research is done for thousands of students, researchers and teachers worldwide. Geneious is currently used by a diverse range of scientists for investigating virus, disease and plant evolution to coral biodiversity – and many things in between!
Recognized for Geneious’ core functionality as a fantastic tool for end-to-end research and analysis of gene and protein data, Biomatters has also been commended for contributing to efforts in conjunction with the University of Auckland to build out the New Zealand KAREN network. Geneious is being refined for use as the front end “GUI” for the national research network, and will be capable of being used in environments such as multi-processor supercomputers and across virtual grid environments.
The Awards gala dinner will be held on Friday the 27th of July, and will be attended by Biomatters’ CEO and COO, as well as a majority of the development team. Our fingers are crossed and we are elated to be nominated for such a prestigious category!
