Geneious: the easiest way to access public databases
Geneious Pro connects directly to a large number of public databases and gives you a simple, unified interface for searching all of them:
- NCBI BLAST
- NCBI PubMed
- NCBI Nucleotide, Protein, Gene, SNP, PopSet
- NCBI Genome
- NCBI Taxonomy
- NCBI Structure
- Pfam
- UniProt
Searches can be performed using a simple keyword or a complex combination of terms. When you start a search, Geneious will download the results for you and load them straight in to the program so you can immediately:
- Click on results to view them using any of Geneious' advanced viewers
- Drag and drop any or all of the results to your local folders so you can access them later
- Select results and perform further analysis like alignments
Results can even be filtered as they download in real-time using keywords. BLAST results can easily be filtered by a certain organism name for example.
Agents
Make sure you always have the latest sequence data using Agents to periodically search any of the above databases and download new sequences as soon as they are available. This can even be used to perform a BLAST search every day to find out when new sequences that are similar to your query are added to GenBank.
