Geneious Pro 4.5 has arrived and it's one of our most exciting releases yet! We have just made the beta version available for all you keen Geneious enthusiasts to let you have a sneak preview of what's coming. Be sure to check it out and let us know what you think about the new features.
Unified Sequence Search
The new "Sequence Search" button is a powerful way to perform all of your sequence searching such as BLAST, Custom BLAST and DeCypher. Easily peform a batch BLAST by selecting several query sequences before you click on sequence search. Select a region in the Sequence View then click on Sequence Search and the range will be entered for you.
Each search is now saved to a special "searches" folder where you can store as many searches as you want. Your searches aren't deleted when you start a new search or shutdown Geneious, you choose when to delete them. Drag a search to your local folders and keep it with the associated data or just shutdown while a BLAST search is running and it will resume automatically when you next start Geneious.
New 3D Structure viewer
The 3D structure viewer has been totally renewed to provide all of the power you need to explore protein structures. To the right of the 3D view are selection controls which allow you to select regions of a model from chains down to atoms. Just above this is a command box to provide access to the huge number of options available in Jmol.
Use the buttons along the top of the 3D view to apply effects to the selected parts of the model then click the Save button to store the state of the view for when you come back.
Real time restriction analysis
Finding restriction sites and open reading frames is now done using interactive options inside the Sequence View. Select a sequence then turn on "Find Restriction Sites" in the Sequence View options. Immediately cut sites will be shown on the sequence. Adjust the options and see the effect it has on the cut sites in real-time and even select a region in the sequence view and to as the excluded region with the click of a button.
Once you've turned on restriction sites you can flick to other sequences and see the cut sites immediately. To save the cut sites for use in further analysis click the "Apply" button in the options.
Similarity coloring, Sassafras and Send Feedback
To top it off we've added a few more powerful features:
- A similarity color scheme which colors residues in an alignment according to similarity
- Support for Sassafras K2 license servers
- And a Send Feedback / Report Bug item in the Help menu to easily send us your comments or report a bug
Don't forget to supercharge your MrBayes and now ClustalW analysis with Green Button supercompute functionality.
Thanks for reading and happy researching!
